HCPC are gathering experiences and opinions of registrants working in non-NHS settings on support received whilst being newly qualified (preceptorship). Take part in the survey here by 27th February.
Preceptorship is a period of structured early-career or transition-related support provided to HCPC registrants, regardless of sector or employment type. This might include support when:
starting work for the first time
returning after a break (including re-admission to the register)
working in the UK for the first time
moving into a new role or organisation
or any situation where additional support helps you develop confidence as an autonomous practitioner.
In simple terms, preceptorship refers to any organised, intentional support you receive when starting something new in your professional practice – whether or not your workplace uses the term ‘preceptorship’. This can apply in any setting: NHS, independent practice, private or commercial organisations, education, social care, non-clinical roles, or self-employment. In 2023, we published our Principles for preceptorship (/) to help ensure all HCPC registrants can access effective support at key moments of transition in their workplace or setting and to promote safe, compassionate, high-quality practice.
We would now like to understand: how preceptorship is accessed and delivered across different professions and settings, what the support looks like in workspaces that do not use the term ‘preceptorship’ and how we can support preceptorships for all registrants, including those working outside of NHS or outside of healthcare settings.

The survey takes around 10-15 minutes to complete. Your responses will be anonymous and confidential.
